CompanyEurope Combined Terminals, Rotterdam, and The Netherlands
ProductTools and Procedures for Software Configuration Management
PeriodJuly 1998 - September 1999
FunctionSoftware Configuration Manager (STO)

The software development department at ECT does development and maintenance of software that is used to support all the aspects of the business process of several container terminals. There are approximately 80 software developers in the department, worki ng on several different new projects and on the maintenance of the software that is currently in use.

As the department configuration manager I had a supporting and guiding role in the Software Configuration Management (SCM) for all projects in the department. This was done by providing them with tools and written procedures. I also gave practical support and introductory courses to the software developers in the department.

In the process of introducing Unicenter TNG as a tool for incident-, problem- and change management I represented the software development department in the group of people who determined how TNG-AHD would have to be used in the company.

I was also responsible for a set of common software modules that were used by a number of projects for the user-interface, logging and mutual communication.

Role:

  • investigating the pre-existing situation of the SCM in all projects;
  • maintenance of the existing TrueChange work environment and support of the TrueChange users;
  • design and implementation of a new work environment for software development and configuration management;
  • co-ordination and support in the process of transition to the new work environment for all projects;
  • reaching agreement on standard procedures for SCM in all projects and documenting these procedures;
  • co-ordination of maintenance and use of shared software modules;
  • reaching agreement between the departments maintenance and development about the use of Unicenter TNG and the way it is to be used in the organization.
